Biography

Israel was born in 1765. He is the son of Daniel Barber and Martha Phelps. He passed away in 1834.[1]

Research notes

An Israel A. Barber (1761-1813; son of Thomas Barber and Mary Barney) married a Permelia Brambley (1767-1818).[2] This could counter the sources for this Israel Barber for dying in 1813 or marrying a Permelia or Amelia) (Unknown-157707).

Ancestry.com family trees include children of Israel (1765-1833/4) as:

  1. Grandison (1805-1860),
  2. Charlotte (1805/6-1860),
  3. Unknown possibly Obediah (1810-),
  4. Jared Phelps (1812-1893),
  5. Virgil (1818-),
  6. Jemimah (1820-),
  7. Elizabeth A. Barber (1825-1914),
  8. Ann Jemima (m. Peeples) (1830-1884)

FAG memorial states that Grandison, Isabel, Charlotte Barber Bellamy (wife of John), Jared Phelps Barber, Obediah, Virgil (unmarried at 32 in 1850), Jemima, and Elizabeth Barber Voorhees (wife of Cornelius) were children of Israel.[1]

FAG memorial states that his father Daniel's death during the Revolution left the family destitute.[1]

Israel claimed to be the first white settler on the northern edge of the Okefenokee Swamp. He assisted surveyors survey the Florida-Georgia line.[1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Israel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Israel:

Barber-4737 and Barber-1478 appear to represent the same person because: Parents are the same. I took over as manager and don't have a death date or spouse that I would have sources for. As my own ancestor had been a "lost child" of Daniel, I would concede to sources should you have them.
