Anne Bardolf was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

Biography

Anne Bardolf was born on 24 June 1389. Her writ for proof of age was May 20, 1409. [1]She was the daughter of Thomas Bardolf, 5th Lord Bardolf and Anice de Cromwell.

She married, firstly, before May, 1409, Sir William de Clifford, son of Roger de Clifford, 5th Lord Clifford and Maud de Beauchamp. She was a widow by late 1423, when she was one of the co-heirs of her uncle Sir William Bardolf. [2]

She married, secondly, Sir Reynold de Cobham, son of Reynold de Cobham, 2nd Lord Cobham (of Sterborough) and Eleanor Mautravers, Baroness Mautravers, before 1427. She died on 6 November 1453 at age 64, without issue.

Coningsby 7 June The jurors say that she is aged 19 years and more, having been born in Tattershall castle and baptised in the parish church there on 24 June 1389, and this they know for the following reasons. Roger Kelke, aged 60 years, was present in the church and saw the baptism, the first in the new font there. William Taillour, 60, held a torch at the baptism and was present at the churching of Amice the mother. William de Kyme and John Hughson, both 50 and more, say that there was heavy rain on that day, the waters overran the banks of the Bain and covered all the grass so that the hay was full of sand. Robert Milne, 50, and John Cole, 43, had the grass mown from 6 a. of meadow washed away by the flood following the rain that fell that day. John Cote, 53, and Richard Holbech, 56, were in the church and saw the chaplain consecrate the water in the font. Thomas Aleyn, 50, and Robert Gouk, 47, went to Coningsby on that day to put out a fire at the house of Alan Sergeant there. Thomas Hughson, 50, that day lead a wild bull with a halter from the chase of Tattershall to his home and it almost killed him. Hugh Goudeby, 60, says that Ralph Cromwell grandfather of Anne told him, then Ralph’s receiver, to give the midwife 20s. C 137/75, no.63 [1]

Anne widow of William Clifford, knight, and Joan wife of William Phelipp, knight, are his kinswomen and next heirs as the daughters of Thomas his brother, Anne aged 34 years and more, Joan 33 years and more. William Clyfford died without heir of his body by Anne before the death of William Bardolf . The manors of Whinburgh, Cantley and Strumpshaw should thus remain to Anne and to William Philip and Joan according to the above." [2]
