He died intestate[6] in Andover in about 1752, and definitively before June 15, 1752, as on that date administration was granted on his estate. His widow married Joseph Poor in 1757.[3]
The will of his father, dated 1753, names a granddaughter, Mary, daughter of Nathaniel, further confirming his parentage.[7]

It would seem the Nathaniel Barnard who married Ruth Preston is not the same Nathaniel Barnard b. 1682 and son of Stephen and Rebecca (Howe) Barnard. Descendants of Robert Barnard, published in the Essex Antiquarian, lists Nathaniel as son of John (b. 1674) and Naomy Barnard. see here, pp. 125-126, and 127. This also makes more sense considering his wife's age.
