Lydia was born 25 May 1684 at Scituate. She was the daughter of William and Lydia (Turnerr) Barrell.[1]
She married Samuel Stockbridge at Scituate on 5 Aug 1709.[2]
Non Compos Mentis
In March 1767, her family and friends asked that the court granted her a guardian because she could not take care of herself or her estate. The court deemed her non compos mentis due to "her great age being between eighty or ninety years of age, and weakness and infirmities of body, the loss of memory and understanding." John Briant of Scituate was appointed to be her guardian. Her inventory was recorded with the probate court.[3]
Probate
She died about 1768 at Scituate. Her estate was probated May 4, 1768 when Samuel Stockbridge was granted the administration of her estate. [4][5]
In 1768, an account of her estate by John Bryant her guardian which included debts received, debts paid, legacies paid, the cost of a lawsuit, and administration fees.[6]
Her inventory was recorded on 22 August 1768 in Scituate. In 1769, a list of claims on the estate was recorded. An account of her estate by Samuel Stockbridge, the administrator was recorded which included funeral charges, and administration fees. The balance of her estate went to the creditors (who were her daughters, the heirs of Lidia Soper, Perris Tower, and Abiel Bryant).[7]
The children of Samuel and Lydia (Barrell) Stockbridge were born in Scituate, Massachusetts:[8]
