Biography

The following is from Greene:

JOSIAH BATCHELDER, third son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Batchelder, was born July 1, 1695. Married in 1722, Sarah, daughter of Francis and Hannah (Nudd) Page of North Hampton; inherited the homestead, and died Oct. 9, 1759. His wife was born Oct. 18, 1698, died in 1781. The cottage house built for and occupied by them in their early married life is still standing. They had six children. The youngest son, David, inherited the homestead.
Children :
1. Josiah, b. Nov. 25, 1725 ; d. Aug. 1748. He had a fever, and died begging for water. The use of cold water in fevers was strictly forbidden by doctors of that period.
2. Elisha, b. Feb. 10, 1727 ; m. Theodate Smith ; settled in Hawke (now Danville), N. H. ; d. Feb. 26, 1813. He had nine children. The eldest son, Josiah, settled in Andover, N. H. Nahum J. Bachelder, Master of N. H. State Grange, Lecturer of National Grange, and candidate for gubernatorial honors, is a grandson of Josiah.
3. Sarah, b. April 26, 1728 ; m. Stephen Healey ; d. Sept. 13, 1821.
4. Nathaniel, b. Oct. 28, 1730; died, unmarried, Dec. 14, 1805. Lived on the homestead.
5. Reuben, b. July 30, 1732 ; m. Miriam Fifield ; settled in Hawke (now Danville), N. H.; d. Feb. 5, 1776. Six children.
6. David, b. Jan. 13, 1736; m. 1st, Elizabeth Swett; 2d, Mary Emery; d. Mar. 11, 1811

Josiah b. abt 1694 - Pierce's Batchelder-Batcheller Genealogy gives his birth as Jul 1, 1695, but no such date is on record. Nor is there any evidence that Nathaniel (1713) had a daughter Elizabeth who m. Richard Sanborn, or otherwise. (C.H. Batchelder - p8)
