Biography

Mary, aka Polly, Blevins was born about 1815, based on her age in census records.

We seek confirmation of the identity of her parents.
Her age in 1850 suggests a birth year of 1816.[1]
Her age in 1860 suggests a birth year of 1815.[2]
Her age in 1870 suggests a birth year of 1815.[3]

This age suggests that she was the daughter of James Bell (not Thomas) and Peggy Troxell who had married in 1809.

"Polly" Blevins married David Spradlin on September 24, 1836 in Wayne Kentucky [4]

1850 US Census[1] David and Polly were enumerated in District No. 2, Wayne Co., Kentucky with children Granville, Talitha, William, Thomas, James, Malinda, George, Nancy.

1860 US Census[2] David and Mary were enumerated in Monticello (post office), Wayne Co., Kentucky with children William, Thomas, James, Malinda, George M, Nancy, Joseph, Marilla, Andrew, David, Charlotte.

1870 US Census [3] Polly and David can be found living in Mullentown, District 2, Wayne, Kentucky, United States Polly is stated to be 55 and David 56; with them are children Lorilda, Andrew, David and Charlott.

Mary passed away on 15 February 1874 [5] Her husband died the following day.

Research Notes

During the merge of Bell-7658 and Bell-22812, the mother on Bell-7658 had been set to Sarah Bell. This mother was detached in favor of the mother Margaret Bell found on the Bell-22812 profile. The two mothers are marked as an unmerged match until someone can figure out which mother is correct.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:

Anyone have a source for her death date? It's the same as her husband. Did they really die on the same day?

Mary Ann Bell Spradlin is my son-in-law's 3X great-grandmother. There is a document on Ancestry.com that shows deaths for both of them being 2/16/1874. However, the spelling is SPRADLING, with a G at the end. But I see that spelling in other documents, too, especially census reports.

I want to talk to my SILs mother as she may have more information. I'll attach the above-mentioned document to this profile.

Thanks for the attached death register. I see he's referred to as a widow. Perhaps we'd find her by scrolling back page by page; we know she was alive in 1870 (census).

On that same record that has Davis near the top, she is fourth up from the bottom. Many Ancestry trees show her death as either 2/16 or 2/15 1874. MyHeritage shows her as 1874, too, 2/15 or 2/16. And, as I look very close to the entry for her, it could be 2/10. Hard to tell if the 0 is a 0 or a 6.

Thanks for encouraging me to look again, I did not see her initially. I see her death date as Feb 15; and his as Feb 16-- both 1874. So yeah, he was a widower-- by one day! Wow.

That form may not have been filled out by a state official until well after the death. Who knows when?

By the way - you and I are 29th cousins!!!

I had to look at the relationship. I have a tenuous connection to Colonial New England, and that's the link that takes me back to our common ancestor, so don't get too excited... ;-)

Who is he? She's my 4th great grandmother

Bell-22812 and Bell-7658 appear to represent the same person because: Kentucky, County Marriages, 1797-1954, database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QKJ3-MY4M : 9 March 2021), David Spradlin and Polly Bell, 24 Sep 1836; citing Marriage, Wayne, Kentucky, United States, various county clerks and county courts, Kentucky; FHL microfilm 591,550.
