Winfield was born in about 1833 or 1838. He was the son of Joshua Belsher and Mary Ward.

Research Notes

A Winfield S. Belsher was enumerated in Tazewell County in 1880 married to "Martha J Belsher" with their three young sons. His date of birth was c. 1840, which seems too young to be the 17 year-old in Josh and Mary's household in 1850. Further research is needed to determine whether Martha J's husband is the same Winfield Belsher as Josh and Mary's son. (Compton-2184 14:17, 29 September 2019 (UTC))
