Biography

Thomas Bennett of Clapcot, Berkshire married Agnes Molins of Mackney, Oxfordshire. [1]

Sometime after 1531 Thomas leased the manor of Rush and lands at Clapcot for a term of years ending in 1550. After a brief period in the hands of Thomas Dynham, the interest was demised to Agnes, the widow of Thomas Bennet, for another 41 years. Agnes eventually conveyed her interest to her son Richard Bennett. [2]

Thomas had his will drawn up on 4 April 1547 describing himself as Thomas Bennett of Clapcot within the parish of Allhallows Wallingford.[3][4] He made bequests to and mentioned:

Thomas's will passed probate on 7 February 1547/8.[3]

A monument is recorded as having been in the church of Wallingford Allhallows that read: This is the monument of Thomas Bennet of Clapcot, Esq, who had issue Thomas Bennett, citizen and alderman of London, his third son, who gave twenty pounds yearly for ever to fifteen poor people of the town of Wallingford.

I think we need to be careful about making any merges or other changes with this family without sources. Thomas Freeman may have the incorrect surname but it may also be the dates that are wrong. One of the Visitations (I'll have to check again which one) had one of the daughters marrying a Man with surname Freeman, and it is possible he has been transposed into the incorrect generation.

Freeman-1143 and Bennett-276 appear to represent the same person because: Freeman is wrong last name for the husband of Ann Molyns{Molyns-1}. All other data match.

Bennett-6329 and Bennett-276 appear to represent the same person because: Agnes Molyns married two different Thomas Bennetts; these two are the 2nd Thomas Bennetts.
