Maria Elisabetha (also known as Anna Maria Elisabetha, or Anna Elisabetha) was born on January 26, 1724, in Eppstein bei Frankenthal, where she was baptized, as a daughter of Johann Philipp & Elisabetha, on January 30, 1724. [1] See copy of her original baptism record, attached.
According to Annette Kunselman Burgert, in Eighteenth Century Emigrants, quoting Oley Hills Lutheran Churchbook, Berks County, Pennsylvania: "Matthaus Roth m. 18 Jan 1741 Anna Maria Elisabetha Bayer. She was born 1723, Candlemas [Feb. 2] dau. of Joh. Philip Bayer from Ipstein [today Eppstein] and his wife Maria Elisabetha." [2] The Oley church recorded, recorded 16 years after her baptism, appears to have gotten the date and year slightly off.
She had an elder sister Anna Maria Boyer (1722-1744), who also came to Pennsylvania with the family as a young child, and died there on March 2, 1744 or 1745, her death being recorded in the Falckner Swamp Lutheran Church records.
Elizabeth arrived in 1731 in Pennsylvania[3] This immigration record is uncertain, however, as women and children are included on the Pennsylvania Merchant's passenger lists, which is the ship that supposedly brought her parents to Pennsylvania. Although there was a Philip Beyer on that ship, there is no record of her, her sister Anna Maria, her mother Elisabeth or others of her siblings.
Elizabeth married Matthias on 18 JAN 1741 at age 16.
On her daughter Elizabeth's baptism record on August 30, 1789 at Oley Hills Church, she is referred to as "Elizabeth".
On November 14, 1787, her husband Matthias wrote his will in Colebrookdale, Berks County, Pennsylvania, naming her "Anna Elizabeth" and providing for her and their children: Jonathan; Solomon; Catharine, wife of Thomas Willson; Barbara, wife of Peter Jerger; and Anna Elisabetha wife of Peter Bastress. The will was proved on April 6, 1795. On March 31, 1795, as "Anna Elizabeth Roth of Colebrookdale" she renounced as executor of his will, in favor of her sons Jonathan and Solomon. [4]
Elizabeth was in a family history or pedigree on 16 June 1941 detailing her marriage and children during the American Revolution (SAR application).[5]
Elizabeth died on 14 November 1809 and was buried in Amityville, Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States.[6] According to her descendant Thomas L. Rhoads, in his book My Ancestry,"
Matthias Roth however in all probability was buried at Amity, as an entry in my father’s records states: "Anna Elizabeth Roth (widow of Matthias) died about 14 November 1809. She was buried on the same day that Catherine Roth, a daughter of Jacob Roth (who was a son of Jonathan) was buried at Amityville. [7]
