Luther served in Co. D, 26th Texas Cavalry (DeBray's Regt) during the Civil War. Afterwards, he married and appears as a widower with two children, a daughter Joanna B and a son Columbus W in the 1870 Census for Liberty County, TX. No record of him is found after that date and no marriage record has ever been found, either. He also served in the Texas Rangers under James H Callahan, possibly during Callahan's notorious raid into Piedras Negras, Mexico about 1855. It is believed Luther and his brother Thomas were working on a farm in Stringtown, Hays County, about the time his father and brother, Calvin, were murdered.
