Biography

Hezekiah Bonham was born 06 May 1667, in Piscataway, Middlesex, New Jersey. He is the son of NIcholas Bonham and Hannah Fuller Bonham.

A Mayflower Descendant from Samuel Fuller Jr. - approved application GS #101517.

Hezekiah was accepted as a town man in Piscataway on 2 Jan. 1687/8. He married Mary Dunn, in 1690. [1] Mary is the daughter of Hugh Dunn and Elizabeth Drake Dunn.

On 01 May 1697, he received a patent for land by right of his father Nicholas. On 09 Oct 1697, Hezekiah and wife Mary sold land in Piscastaway, part of which was the remainder of land held by Bonham in the right of Daniel Lippertone.

His wife Mary passed away in Nov 1699.

Hezekiah moved to Maidenhead, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. In 1699, Hezekiah joined with others to purchase land at Maidenhead. In 1723, Hezekiah was appointed a Judge, in Hunterdon County

Hezekiah passed away after 27 Jan 1733/4, in Maidenhead, Middlesex, New Jersey.

HEZEKIAH appears in no record of any kind in Piscataway after 1698. On 18 March 1698/9 he appears in a list of inhabitants of Maidenhead when Gov. Jeremiah Basse and others, as agents, sold 100 acres to the inhabitants of Maidenhead for 5 shillings, for a meeting house, school and burial ground. Hezekiah moved to Maidenhead, Hunterdon Co. NJ sometime after 1698. On 9 Oct. 1697 Hezekiah Bonham of Piscataway and wife Marie sold land in Piscataway part of which was the "remainder of land held by Bonham in the right of Daniel Lippentone". Hezekiah and wife Mary sold further land in Piscataway to Edward Slater on 27 Oct. 1698.[2]

On 1 May 1697 Ezekiah Bonham received confirmation of a grant of 182 acres "in right of his late father Ezekiah Bonham, Thomas Ffarneswoorth and Daniel Lippington." Hezekiah Bonham and wife Mary later sold two of these tracts proving that the earlier grant was this Hezekiah. The records are clearly in error regarding Hezekiah's father's name, as Nicholas is the documented father. In addition, there is no record of an earlier Hezekiah Bonham in Piscataway in whose right a son could have a proprietary grant. [3]

He received his patent for land, May 1 1697, in tight of his late father, Ezekiah Bonham (error for Nicholas Bonham) etc. (ARCH. Vol. XXI, pp. 268 and 281)

He married about 1690, Mary Dunn, daughter of Hugh, Sr, b. Jan. 19, 1671-2 and died Nov 7, 1699. They had four children recorded in Piscataway?[4]

In 1698-9 HEZEKIAH BONHAM SR. joined with others in the purchase at Maidenhead, he removed there, althoUgh this may not have occured before 1712.

Hezekiah married Mary Bishop by 1700. [5]

HEZEKIAH BONHAM SR, was living in 1732 although probably deceased before 1738. He was a judge in Hunterdon County, 1723, as "Justice Hezekiah Bonham". [6]

Soon after the death of his first wife, 1699, HEZEKIAH BONHAM removed to Maidenhead. Many records and intermarriages, directly and indirectly prove the parentage and relationship. He gave the name Hezekiah into the Drake family, and they gave him Jeremiah and Ephraim.

Children of Hezekiah and Mary (Dunn) Bonham[7]

  1. Mary Bonham b. 4 Oct 1691
  2. Samuel Bonham b. 6 Feb 1693
  3. Hannah Bonham b. 14 Mar 1695/6
  4. Sarah Bonham b. 14 Feb 1698

A quick look at the newest Mayflower Society book for Edward Fullers family indicates that Hezekiah Bonham only had four children now listed on the profile. They say nothing about a second wife. Generally we use the information from the Mayflower Society, so this will need to be looked at, researched, sourced and necessary disconnections made.

There is no record of Anna Hunt as wife to Hezekiah. Uriah was the child of Mary Bishop Bonham. Anna will be removed as wife,

Bonham-881 and Bonham-20 appear to represent the same person because: Please merge these two profiles of Hezikiah Bonham. Thanks, Becky Syphers
There are two wives named Mary Bishop here. Perhaps a merge is in order?
Bonham-25 and Bonham-20 appear to represent the same person because: Same Hezekiah, same wife.
Ann Hunt has been removed as she was not a wife.

Her father named Hezekiah in the distribution of his property after probate. Mistaken as an indication he was family
