Sources on Charles Bonnett - Father and Son
A possible match to my Charlie is Charles Bonnett. There is a father, born about 1828 in Germany, and a son, born about 1860. The father seems a bit old for Verlydia, she was born 1855, but Verlydia's next husband, Britton Felps, was born 1830, so not impossible. The son, on the other hand, would have only been 13/14 years old when the marriage to Verlydia Smith took place. I believe if either of these Bonnett were the same as Charles Bonnard, it would have been the father.
I have a few concerns about this connection, however. For one, the name Bonnard is used in reference to Charlie pretty regularly. Even in the 1880 census, his daughter is with her mother and stepfather as "Bonard I Felps." (her maiden name was Ida Bonnard) Other than the marriage record of Charlie Bonet and Verlidia Smith, there is nothing more to connect this family to my Charlie Bonnard. Also, if either the father or son Charles Bonnett is this Charlie Bonnard, then that would throw the Charlie Bonnard buried in Medina County out the window as a possibility. That Charlie Bonnard seems so fitting as my Charlie that any similarities to the Charles Bonnetts seems less so.
However, I wouldn't mind some input. The following are my sources for both.
Reeve-104 19:00, 9 June 2015 (EDT) - Charles Sr's wife, Elise, does not pass until 1878, 5 years following the marriage to Verlydia Smith. Also, examining Charles Jr records, he is listed as being born from 1856 - 1859. It is possible that he may have been the Charlie in question, in spite of his apparent youth in 1873. Since he had not died prior to 1877 when Verlydia married Britton, then if this is the same Charlie Verlydia married, their marriage must have ended in divorce. It is also possible that Verlydia was younger than estimated.
