Biography of Israel Boone

Notables Project
Israel Boone is Notable.

Israel Boone was born in 1726. He passed away in 1756.

Israel Boone, unlike his famous brother Daniel Boone, has not seemed to garner much attention until of late. He lived, he died, and he did some heroic things during his life. There is a commemorative marker to honor him and his family. The inscription on the marker reads:

ISRAEL BOONE

Born May 20, (N.S.) 1726, Bucks County, PA Died June 26, 1756, Davie County, NC

A few feet to the right, Israel Boone rests for eternity. Israel was the 2nd of 11 children born to Squire and Sarah Morgan Boone and their only child to be buried in North Carolina.

Israel Boone's birth date is given as 9 May 1726, written Old Style as 09 Third 1726. This was documented in the 1726 Quaker Monthly Meeting.

Israel married in 1747 while in Pennsylvania. The name of his wife is now proven to be Martha Farmer. To them were born 4 children, Jessie, Jonathan, Elizabeth and Sarah (Sallie). There is a fifth child, Jemima Boone that a number of researchers have documented as a daughter of Israel Boone; and dna tests bear out that lineage.

"Israel Boone married Martha Farmer on Dec. 31, 1747, at Montgomery Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. John Marks in Montgomery Township, Philadelphia Co., PA. Witnesses: Squire and Sarah Boone, and Martha's father, Samuel Farmer, Sr. Martha Farmer was born in 1728, to Samuel Farmer, Sr., and first wife, Martha Thomas, in Whitemarsh, Philadelphia Co., PA, and died of Tuberculosis, before her husband, Israel, in 1756 in Rowan Co., NC."[1]

  • Again in 1771 Rowan County was reconfigured with the northeastern part of what remained of the county was renamed to Surry County. 1777 brought the change of the western part of Rowan County to Burke County.
  • The much smaller Rowan County changed again In 1788 when the western part became Iredell County.
  • In 1822 the eastern part of the still shrinking county became Davidson County.

This seems to have been made at about the time of Israel's death."[3] From [www.boonesociety.org/boonegenealogy/Boone%201st%205%20Gens%20Update%20August,%202012.pdf Boone Society] - link dead at 6 May 2021

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Israel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Israel:
