Biography

NEHGR 1859 published a research paper by C. M. Endicott regarding the Osgood family. This is what he had to say about Sarah, wife of John Osgood . . . "It appears by his will, his wife's name was Sarah, and in the list of passengers by the ship Confidence at Southampton, April 11, 1638, was a 'Sarah Osgood' and four children ; occupation -- 'spinster.' This, I have no doubt, was the wife of John, and the four children were, Sarah, John, Mary, and Elizabeth. The place from whence she came is there called 'Horrell,' which, abating somewhat for Cockneyisms in those days, I have no doubt is intended for 'Orrell,' a town in Lancashire, not far from Liverpool, inasmuch, as no such place as 'Horrell' can be found in any part of England. This was also the county from which Richard Mather, father of Increase, emigrated three years before."

Children

Sarah married John Osgood and they had the following known children:

2. Mary Osgood, b. England
3. Captain John Osgood, b. England
4. Sarah Osgood, b. England
5. Elizabeth Osgood, b. England
6. Thomas Osgood, b. England
7. Christopher Osgood, b. England
8. Deborah Osgood, b. England
9. Stephen Osgood, b.Massachusetts
10. Hannah Osgood, b. Massachusetts

Death

She died 8 Apr 1667[1] and although she is not listed in the cemetery database, and no tombstone has been found, a findagrave page indicates possible burial in the Old North Parish Burying Ground, North Andover, Essex, Massachusetts.[2]

The marriage to Brandon is unsourced and seems rather unlikely, given the vast distances between Norfolk and Hampshire, and then Sarah apparently would have abandoned her putative child in Ireland, only to come back to Wherwell to have a large family with her known husband. Suggest this should be reviewed and most probably detached from a very well known PGM family.
