William Bosville was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

Biography

William was an Officer in the Parliament Army and married Mary Wilkinson. They had children: Godfrey, of Gunthwaite d. before 1714 William, of Heath, 1655 - pre 1714 Mary, m. Ed Binny of Newland Elizabeth, m. 1. John Allot of Bontley and Barnby Hall, 2. Thos Bowden of Bowden, Derby. Margaret, died unmarried 1695 Priscilla, died 1718, m. Gervase Armytage of Kerrisford Hall [1]

William, succeeded to Gunthwaite and is named by Ludlow in his memoirs as one of a hundred gentlemen belonging to the Inns of Court, who, with himself, formed themselves into a body of horse under Sir Philip Stapleton ad guards to the Earl of Essex. He had the rank of Captain in the Parliamentary Army in January 1643 and was desperately wounded in the fight at Aylesford between Sir Wm Waller and Sir Ralph Hopton in March 1644. He had afterwards the rank of Major. He was in several commissions in the time of the commonwealth including that for selling the fee farm rents of the Duchess of Lancaster and Cornwall in 1649, and in 1656 for the sale of the forests of Sherwood, Needwood, Kings wood and Enfield. After the restoration, he made the declaration required, May 25m, 1660, and received his pardon. On this he and his wife Mary, a daughter of Roger Wilkinson and step-daughter of Sir Isaac Pennington, the Lord Mayor of London, returned to Gunthwaite where they both died within two years of each other and were buried in the church at Penistone. He was described as of Richmond, Surrey, in a license granted by the Bishop of Winchester to himself, his wife, family and guests, to eat flesh during Lent, dated 2nd March, 1660. By his wife he had two sons and four daughters:

2nd William who was described as of Heath, Yorks, but in his later years he resided at Bristol. He died before his brother, Godfrey. William married Benedicta, a daughter of __ Fisher and relict of John Hudson, both of Bristol. Benedicta died 1719. By her William had two sons and a daughter:

3rd Mary, lst daughter, married Edward Bunny of Bunny Hall, Newland, near Wakefield, eighth in descent from Richard Bunny of the Hall. She was Bunny's third wife. They had issue, 1st Richard, 2nd Edward who sold Newland, 3rd Boswell. Bunny died 1691, his wife 1696. Both were buried at Normanton. She was her husband's executrix.

4th Elizabeth, 2nd daughter of William, married John Allot of Bentley and Barnby Hall. She married secondly Thomas Bowden of Bowden Co Derby who died 1702; both buried at Emley, Yorks

5th Priscilla, 3rd daughter '

6th Margaret, 4th daughter [2]
