Catherine Bowman was born on December 9, 1796, in Rockingham County, Virginia, the daughter of John Jacob Bowman and Elizabeth Eva Steele Bowman. Her family were descendants of immigrants from Switzerland, Baumann- Bowman.[1] When Catherine was very young, they moved to Washington County, in Eastern Tennessee. When Catherine was 21, she married Jacob Benjamin Klepper on December 23, 1817, in Washington, Tennessee[2]and they had thirteen children.[3] She died on February 18, 1867, in Limestone, Tennessee, at the age of 70, and was buried in the Limestone Church of Brethren Cemetery, Washington Co., Tennessee[4]
