Biography

John Boyd was born in Ireland (assumed: daughter Mary's profile has her birth as "about 1758 in County Armagh, Northern Ireland").

Mary was married in Guilford county, North Carolina on January 17, 1775.

1730 birth year is a guess based on his daughter Mary marrying in 1775.

Leads

John Boyd born 1740

A profile for a John Boyd (Boyd-1084) could be a match for Mary's father John.
The Boyd-1084 profile for John shows
  • Born November 21, 1740 in Ballymena, County Downs, Ireland
  • Son of Robert C Boyd Sr. and Lucretia Omery
    • Siblings' names include Robert, Margaret, Mary, Constant/Constance, Rachel, Sarah, Thomas, and Isabella
  • Died June 11, 1815 in Brushy Creek, Union, South Carolina, USA
Descendants attached to John include just two (excluding common names of Robert, Margaret, Mary, Sarah & Thomas) who might have been named for mother/sibling of the John Boyd who died in South Carolina:
  • Margaret Lucretia Bell (July 12, 1842 - August 8, 1908)
  • Zilpha Isabel (Eagan) Semands (September 10, 1845 - )
More information is needed to determine whether Boyd-312 and Boyd-1084 are a match or not. The lack of recurring names of Lucretia, Constant/Constance, Rachel, or Isabella among Boyd-312 descendants (& Boyd-1084's death in South Carolina when Mary was married in North Carolina and died in Tennessee) argues for "not".

Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR Genealogical Research Databases, database online, (http://www.dar.org/ : accessed August 1, 2016), "Record of John Boyd", Ancestor # A013350.
The DAR has a record for a John Boyd b Ireland 1715 with service "on the frontier" - Bedford Co. (Virginia)... maybe this John? DAR has his service as PA, but he could have immigrated from Ireland to Pennsylvania & then moved to Virginia/NC after serving there (DAR has death in PA, but also notes that his service is inconsistent with his residence).

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Boyd-1084 and Boyd-312 do not represent the same person because: Not enough to confirm match. Common name is about all there is right now.
