Biography

The wife of Peter Reist (abt.1700-abt.1743) is named in a one-page manuscript found inserted looseleaf into an 1814 Martyrs’ Mirror that records Peter’s marriage to “Anna Glor Beirey” in 1725, her birth in 1697 and the birth of their seven children: Peder (Peter) in 1726, Hanes (John) in 1728, Bäb (Barbara) in 1730, Ana Glor (Anna Gloria or Anaclore) in 1732, Jacob in 1734, Abberham (Abraham) in 1737, and Cristian (Christian) in 1740. A copy of this manuscript is included in information on the Reist Homestead at 50 Northview Drive in a blog on the Historic Mennonite Farms and Homes of Littitz, Pennsylvania at https://pennblog.typepad.com/lititz_mennonites/2016/02/reist.html.

She is thought to be the daughter of Samuel Beyer (1662-1732) and Maria (Kirschner) Beyer (1666-1718). No baptism record was found for her in the Frankenthal Church Book that records Samuel’s son Blasius Beyer (1700-1785)’s baptism in 1700; but there are only three records there for all of 1697 and none before that back to 1689. Their marriage has been said to have occurred in Frankenthal on April 29, 1723 [1] or April 29, 1725 [2] but no primary source found yet.

Her husband Peter was said on his 1723 Swiss passport to have been born in Rhein Dürkheim, in the Bishopric of Worms, Germany, and to be going back there. [3] [4] Since according to the manuscript they married in 1725, they probably married in the general vicinity of Rhein Dürkheim, which is about 18 km from Frankenthal.

According to H. G. Reist, she consistently used the name “Anaclore” in Pennsylvania records. [5]
