Per Cail Collins : My great-great-great grandfather and grandmother were Seth Boyet and Patience Moore Boyet. Seth was born on the west side of Horse Creek on his father's property located north of Flat Branch. His father James Boyet settled in Burke County (now Screven County) in 1786 on a small tract of land located on the west side of Horse Creek and south of Louisville Road, near Rocky Ford. James later purchased lands further north on Horse Creek and settled on lands in the Flat Branch area. James' main tract was located opposite of where Little Horse Creek joins Horse Creek. After James' death, his widow Sabra Boyet moved to area between Woodcliff and Bay Branch. I descend from Seth's daughter, Elvina Boyet Collins, a wife of Jackson Collins. Patience Moore, wife of Seth Boyet, was born in Rocky Ford on her father's farm that was located between Horse Creek and Mile Branch. Patience was a daughter of John Moore and Dicey Sykes. John Moore's name mysteriously appeared in Rocky Ford in 1795. He was a chain carrier for land granted to Abraham Mincey.

" What is a chain carrier?"

It is a surveyor's term. A "chain" is a linked-chain that measured 66 feet in length that was used to measure the distance of property lines. Persons using the chain to measure property lines were called "Chain carriers." Those who were chain carriers for another were usually an individual closely associated with the property owner. Chain carriers were usually kin-related to the property owner, sometimes a son, brother, uncle, father, son-in-law,etc. Others were otherwise close to the family, perhaps generations back. Most carriers were men, although a rare few were women.
