Biography

The present-day town of Sherborn was originally settled by three or four families, the Woods, Holbrooks and Lelands, all from Dorchester, at which time the area was known by the Indian name, Boggistow. By 1662 there were fourteen families residing. The nearest village was Medfield, four miles away, and where until 1674 the inhabitants of Sherborn attended church. The first mention of the Brecks is found at Sherborn in 1656 when his daughter, Elinor married. His identity as the father of the following children seems to be established by a deed of Thomas Jones and John Richardson, who conveyed, in 1727, to John Breck of Sherborn their "whole right and title in the first and second divisions of Land laid out in Sherborn in the Right of John Breck late of Sherborn, dec'd.", also their "whole right and title in the third and fourth divisions of Land laid out in the Right of John Breck Sen, late of Sherborn dec'd.", Jones and Richardson having bought their right from the Heirs of Elener Crane late of Stow dec'd, the Natural sister to the aforesiad John Breck." [Bent, Allen H., "The Sherborn and Gardner, MA Brecks", Boston, 1902, p. 4]

Breek-1 and Breck-3 appear to represent the same person because: Breek-1 is probably a misspelling of Breck-3 but it interferes with Search results and encourages the making of duplicate profiles. The Dorchester Vital Records appear to consistently spell his LNAB as Breck. I did a general search in Ancestry.com of the spelling 'Breek' and out of the 623 results for the 1600's records only 1 "John Breeck" who applied for freemanship in 1690 returned and that result is an index record. So, it's probably safe to use the Breck spelling. Thanks for your help with the merge. Any questions or comments - please don't hesitate.
This person never existed. The death of 3 Jan 1660 doesn't exist. There is a death of 3 Jan 1760 which is 100 years too late. The deeds upon which his existence is supposed actually upon examination show this man never existed. No town records show him as residence. The father of John, Eleanor and Thomas is clearly unknown.

A: I’m trying to verify this line. Can you identify the error that’s being made in the interpretation of the deed? Does it still support John, Thomas and Eleanor as siblings?
