William Brittain was born 15 Oct 1754, in Middleton, Monmouth, New Jersey, a child of William Brittain and Mary Collins.
William was a a Loyalist who joined his brother James in the New Jersey Volunteers, as a private in DeLauncy's brigade and went through the same capture and escape as James did. From "Collections of the New Jersey Historical Society - Vol. X, p. 33 "Brittain, William, Knowlton, Sussex County, New Jersey, refused oaths, com. 1777; in 1. 1778; imprisoned, escaped to St. John, New Brunswick."
After the Revolutionary War, he went to New Brunswick, Canada on the "Duke of Richmond" in 1783 with brothers James and Joseph from New Jersey.
"William Brittain was a brother of the preceding (Sabin) (Preceding were James and Joseph) and a grantee of Parr Town, drawing a lot next his two brothers." Source: "Stillwell Genealogy" using Sabin's Loyalists as their source.
He died on 27 Mar 1813 in Greenwich, Kings, New Brunswick, Canada. He was buried on 30 Mar 1813 in Greenwich, Kings, New Brunswick, Canada.

In the Name of God Amen. I William Brittain of the Parish of Greenwich County of Kings and Province of New Brunswick ~ Yeoman being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and Memory Do make and ordain and Constitute this my last will and Testament that is to say I give and Recommend my Soul into The Hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian [ ... ] at the Discretion of my Executors and as Touching such worldly estate wherewith it has Pleased almighty God to bless me with I give devise and Dispose of in the following manner
That is to say I give and bequeath to my Loving wife Christianna one third part of my whole estate after any Debts are paid I also give to my Granddaughter Christianna Brittain three Ewes & three Lambs
- - and the Remainder part of the whole of my Estate I give and bequest to my five remaining Children to be Equally divided among them, that is to say my son James, my Daughter Mary, my daughter Addraina my daughter Elizabeth and lastly my daughter Catherine, and at the decease of my Loving wife Christianna all that Remains of the one third part bequeath to her shall be Equally Divided amongst my Five Children as before Named

William Brittain was born on October 15, 1754 in Amwell, New Jersey to William and Mary (Collins) Brittain. He married Christianna Moody in 1776. They were the parents of James and Adrianna. He died on March 30, 1813.
William's mother Mary was of French descent and strongly suppored the colonies during the revolution. His father William however, was a devoted King's man. This division in the family influenced their children. The three youngest sons, William, James and Joseph were Tories and went to New Brunswick, Canada to fight for the crown. Nathaniel, Zeboeth and Samuel fought for the Colonies in the New Jersey forces.
