Biography

Joseph Brooks, son of Deacon Joshua and Hanna (Mason) Brooks was born c1670. [1] [2][3]

  • 1695: November 11: Joshua Brooks sold his Concord lands to his four sons, Noah, Daniel, Joseph and Job, with the consent of his wife. [2]
  • 1697: August 24: The brothers Noah Brooks, Daniel Brooks Sen., Joseph Brooks Sen., Benjamin Pierce, Benjamin Whittemore, and Judah Potter, conveyed by deed, all the rights that Job Brooks had of the estate of his father Joshua Brooks, deceased, to their brother Hugh Brooks. [1] [2]

He married first Abigail Bateman on January 31, 1703/4. [1] Abigail was born July 29, 1677, daughter of Thomas and Abigail (Merriam) Bateman. [4] [2]

Abigail died January 24, 1704/5, after the birth of their child. [2] [4]

He married second Rebecca Blodgett on June 26, 1706. [1] [4] Rebecca was born at Woburn on June 5, 1789, daughter of Thomas and Rebecca (?Tidd) Blodgett. [5] [2]

He died on July 11, 1746 and is buried in the Hill Burying Ground at Concord. [4] [2]

Joseph wrote his will on May 4, 1746. In it he names: [6]

  • daughter Rebecca Baker, wife of Thomas Baker
  • sons Nathan, Amos, Isaac and James
  • daughter Mara Russell, wife of Nathaniel Russell

His estate was inventoried on August 20, 1746 and valued at: Real estate L1470 and personal items including household goods and furniture, books, livestock and implements of farming L557 4d. [6]

His widow Rebecca died on January 25, 1768, at Lincoln. [2] [7]

Brooks-6679 and Brooks-732 appear to represent the same person because: Brooks-6679 should be merged into Brooks-732. Both the sons of Joshua and Hannah (Mason) Brooks. Have the same wives, children etc. Thanks

This Joseph Brooks is attached to incorrect parents. His parents are Joshua Brooks and Hannah Mason as stated in his bio The parents Gershom Brooks and Hannah Eckles should be removed.

Then Joseph Brooks-6679 should be merged into this Brooks-732.
