Biography

Nathan Brooks was born in Woburn, Massachusetts, on November 1, 1706, the son of John Brooks and Mary Bruce.[1][2][3]

He married first, Sarah Wyman, daughter of Jonathan and Hannah (Fowle) Wyman. Based on the birth date of their first child, they were probably married about 1727. Sarah died February 21, 1747-8. Children:[3]

  1. Nathan, born November 6, 1727.[3]
  2. Isaac, born July 31, 1729.[3]
  3. Jonathan, born August 26, 1731; died December 30, 1733.[3]
  4. John, born May 6, 1733; a housewright of Hollis, New Hampshire.[3]
  5. Jonathan, 2nd, born February 21, 1735; married December 3, 1766, Mercy Bill; a cabinetmaker of New London, Connecticut.[3]
  6. William, born March 3, 1737; a blacksmith of Hollis, New Hampshire.[3]
  7. Sarah, born March 1, 1739-40; married James French of Hollis, New Hampshire.[3]
  8. Seth, born April 1, 1740; a house joiner of Acton.[3]
  9. Zachariah, born April 20, 1742; a tailor of Woburn.[3]
  10. Mary, born March 1, 1744.[3]
  11. Elizabeth, born in 1746; married October 14, 1766, Giles Johnson, of Woburn.[3]
  12. Samuel, born July 16, 1747; married August 8, 1769, Martha Pierce.[3]

He married second, intention recorded at Woburn on March 18, 1749, Elizabeth Fowle, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Broughton) Fowle. They had one child:[3][4]

  1. Abigail, born September 8, 1751; married June 27, 1771, Francis Johnson, Jr.; died January 1, 1835, aged 83.[3]

Nathan Brooks died in Woburn on January 6, 1751, at the age of 45. He was buried at the First Burial Ground in Woburn, where his gravestone reads:[3][5][6]
