Biography

Birth and Parents

Samuel Brown was born in Connecticut.

Samuel, the son of Francis Brown and Mary Edwards was born in 1645 and baptized on 7 August 1645 in New Haven, Connecticut.[1]

Samuel was reportedly cited in town records for drunk and disorderly behavior around 1665.[2]

Marriage and Children

Samuel married Mercy Tuttle in on 2 May 1667 in Connecticut.[3]Samuel and Mercy had six children:

  1. Abigaile (b. 1669; d. 1670),[4][5]
  2. Sarah (b. 1672; d. 1690),[6] m. Joseph Doolittle,[7]
  3. Samuel (b. 1674; d. 1691) died of ax wounds to the head inflicted by his mother,
  4. Rachel (b. 1677; d. 1718),[8] m. Samuel Brockett[9]
  5. Capt. Francis (b. 1679; d. 1741),[10][11] m. 1) Hannah Alling; 2) Elizabeth Trowbridge,[12] and
  6. Gideon (b. 1685- ).[13]

Death

Samuel died intestate on 4 November 1691 at age 45 years in Wallingford, Connecticut, shortly before his wife was convicted of the murder of their eldest son.[14]

The inventory of Samuel Browne of Wallingford deceased was taken on 11 November 1691 and recorded at New Haven.[15]
