Disputed Parents

According to several sources, John Bruce, 3rd of Cultmalindie, is the son of Hector Bruce and Gelis Wardlaw. He married Euphemia Elphinstone, daughter of Alexander Elphinstone, 1st Lord Elphinstone and Elizabeth Barlow.[1][2][3][4]

According to Burke’s Peerage and Clan MacFarlane, John Bruce, 3rd of Cultmalindie, is the son of Lucas Bruce, 2nd of Cultmalindie and Christian Ruthven.[5][6][7] He married Euphemia Elphinstone, daughter of Alexander Elphinstone, 1st Lord Elphinstone and Elizabeth Barlow.[8]
