The wife of John Hopton was Isabel de Burley from the Burley family of Birley, Hereford. This is confirmed by the inquisition post mortem for William de Buerley (Burley) where it is stated: "He [William Burley] died on 2 December 1445. The above Thomas Hopton is his next heir, as the son of Walter, the son of John, the son of Isabel, the daughter of John Buerley, knight, the father of Roger, the father of John, the father of William. He is aged 30 and more". The Isabel de Burley mentioned married a second John de Hopton, the father of the John referred to in the inquisition. The knight in question was Sir John de Burley K.G. (c.1325-1383). A second John de Hopton (wife unknown) needs to be added between Walter Hopton and John de Hopton husband of Isabel de Burley (not Elizabeth as currently appearing).
