This may be his son - Farbury Landrum Tillotson fought for the South Carolina Volunteers in the 13th regiment Infantry Company B. The 13th was a part of the 'Army of Northern Virginia' General Lee's army, and the 13th was under A.P. Hill. F.L. Tillotson was wounded in 1862 in the defense of Richmond and was placed in the Danville General Hospital where he recovered. He was wounded a second time at Gettysburg and sent to Columbia Hospital where he again recovered. He reenlisted in 1864 and was sent to the Confederate Navy in Richmond till the end of the War.

My guess is Mitchell comes from here. There is the Burns connection for one thing.

Mitchell is obviously also a surname. I think they started in Yorkshire and came to VA.
