Research Notes

Philip has previously been shown on Wikitree as a son of James Butler, 3rd Earl of Ormond, with no mother named. There is no good evidence for this.

A previous research note on James Butler's profile said that Philip "married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John Cockayne, Chief Baron of the Exchequer, by his wife Ida de Grey, and had issue. Ancestor of Barons Boteler of Brantfield". No source was given.

I have detached James Butler, 3rd Earl of Ormond as father, and added a research note. I have done tiger tidying, getting rid of junk.

... and I have now proposed a (previously shown as an unmerged match) merge with an obviously duplicate profile

Thank you!

Butler-138 and Boteler-65 are not ready to be merged because: Too many differing parents to confirm the match

Butler-138 and Boteler-65 appear to represent the same person because: Butler-138 has the wrong parents - please detach
