There is an ongoing mistake that attributes Frances Elizabeth Foote as this man's mother. I have traced this man first to Fairfield, SC, before that to Granville Co, NC where he is named in the will of Peter Newport, as his grandson, child of his daughter, Elizabeth Newport and James Butler. Granville Co Probates, Vol.I, 1782. Additionally Peter Newport with William Owen, bought 800 acres in Granville Co. in 1779,and his son in law, James Butler, also bought 100 acres next to them. See NC Land Grant Database. Later, this James moved to Fairfield Co, SC, then migrated to Hart Co, KY. Where Seamon and his brother, John had settled. It does appear that they originated in Prince William Co., VA. There were several James Butlers living in SC at the same time, many attribute her to Col. James Butler who died during the Revolution, different person.
