Biography
Thomas was born in 1808. He is the son of William C. Calhoun and Catherine J. Degraffenreid. Thomas married Margaret Meek, possibly in 1830. [1] Prior to 1840, they moved to Yalobusha County, Mississippi. [2] In 1850 his wife and children are enumerated on the federal census there without him. [3] Thomas died 1848. [4]
Research Notes
The marriage record routinely attributed to this couple is a Georgia record which, nonetheless, contains a marriage location of South Carolina. If the marriage record is correct and the eldest son's date of birth is correct, he was born before they were married. This seems unlikely. Either one date or the other is wrong, or Thomas J. Calhoun had a prior unknown marriage.
