Research Notes

Legend: Anne Marie Calvert was born in 1603

Ann Marie Calvert is said to have been born in 1603 in Largoward, Fife, Scotland.[1], the daughter of Robert Calvert (1546-?) and Margaret (Cubie) Calvert (1557-1645). [1]

Legend: Anne Marie Calvert was the daughter of Robert Calvert

Anne Marie Calvert is sometimes shown as the daughter or Robert Calvert and his wife Margaret Cubie. No evidence for this has been found.

Saunders adds that "until the popularity of the Internet in the last few years, I had never seen any allegations as to the wife of this Dr. James Bell. Since then allegations are that the wife of this man that I haven't yet seen evidence even existed is Anne Marie Calvert, parents unknown. Yours is the first mention I have seen of possible parents for her.[2]

Robert Calvert (1546 - 1616)[1]
Margaret Cubie Calvert (1557 - 1645)[1]

Legend: Anne Marie Calvert was the wife of James Beall

This profile was previously linked to a husband, James Beall, supposedly born in Scotland 1603 and died in Scotland 1646. No reliable evidence has been found that either a Dr. James Beall or an Anne Marie Calvert ever existed.

Anne Marie is said to have married James Beall (1603-1646) in St Andrews Church, Fife, Scotland in 1623. James was the son of Alexander Beall (1565-1612) and Margaret (Ramsey) Beall (1569-1605).[1]

Fredric Z. Saunders, a respected genealogist states that it "has been alleged for over 100 years that a Dr. James BELL was the father of Ninian BEALL, yet in all the literature over that time, I have not seen one reference to any document showing that he even existed. [2]

The James Beall legend, as reported by Find-a-Grave, asserts that James Beall of Scotland married Anne Marie Calvert, born 1603, the daughter of Robert Calvert, born 1546, and Margaret Margaret (Cubie) Calvert (1557-1645). [1]

The implication of Ninian Beall having a Calvert mother would be that surely she was a member of the family of Charles Calvert, Lord Baltimore, who founded Maryland, accounting for Ninian Beall's prominence in early Maryland. But not facts support this.

Fredric Z. Saunders' second challenge is to anyone who can find documentation that a person in this time and place named James Beall actually married an Anne Marie Calvert.[2]

Legend: Anne Marfie Calvert died in 1646

Calvert is said to have died in the Orkney Islands, Scotland. [1]

Alternatively, she is said to have died 21 May 1646 at St Andrews, Fifeshire, Scotland, aged 42-43.

Legend: James and Anne Marie Beall had Children

The primary child shown for Anne Marie Calvert was Ninian Beall. However, the parents of Ninian Beall are unknown.

For the full list of children and the family linkages, see James Beall.

No Church Records

No church records for birth, marriage and death were found for any female with the surname Calvert between 1600 and 1650 in Scotland's People, the official repository for online Scotland records, [3]

Calvert-2197 and Calvert-202 appear to represent the same person because: Another duplicate profile for this "supposed" non-existent person.

No primary sources have been found for her existence. Note that Find A Grave does not quote primary sources, nor does Family Search.

Calvert-1159 and Calvert-202 appear to represent the same person because: It is likely that there never was such a person as Anne Marie Calvert, however the legend of her existence as the wife of Dr. James Beall is all over the internet. Both of these profiles refer to the same person. We need to keep one of them, with all the documentation we can find, but don't need two of them!

in reference to Anne Marie Calvert Beall concerning her death date as the same as her spouse James. I checked, Ancestry,Geni (My Heritage) LDS Family Search, and Find a Grave. Find a Grave substanteated the same year of Birth as 1603 but offered no Death date. The others however all agreed on 5/21/1646 as the date for Anne Marie and James.
