John Campbell, 3rd Earl of Breadalbane and Holland was baptised on 10 March 1695/96 at Chapel Royal, St. James's, London, England. He was the son of John Campbell, 2nd Earl of Breadalbane and Holland and Henrietta Villiers. He married, firstly, Lady Amabel Grey, daughter of Henry Grey, 1st and last Duke of Kent and Hon. Jemima Crew, on 20 February 1717/18 at St. James's, Westminster, London, England. He married, secondly, Arabella Pershall, daughter of John Pershall and Charlotte Colepeper, on 23 January 1730.[1] He died on 26 January 1782 at age 85 at Abbey Kirk of Holyrood House, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. His will was probated in June 1783.[2]
He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, on 13 October 1711.1 He was styled as Lord Glenorchy between 1717 and 1752. He held the office of Master of the Horse in 1718, to the Princess of Wales. He held the office of Minister to Copenhagen between 1720 and 1730.1 He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) on 17 May 1725. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Saltash between 1727 and 1741. He held the office of Minister to St. Petersburg in December 1731. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Orford between 1741 and 1746. He held the office of Lord of the Admiralty from 1741 to 1742. He held the office of Master of the Jewel Office between 1745 and 1756. He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1752 and 1768. He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Breadalbane and Holland [S., 1681] on 23 February 1752. He succeeded to the title of 3rd Viscount of Tay and Paintland [S., 1681] on 23 February 1752. He succeeded to the title of 3rd Lord Glenurchy, Benederaloch, Ormelie and Weick [S., 1681] on 23 February 1752. He succeeded to the title of 7th Baronet Campbell, of Glenorchy, co. Perth [N.S., 1625] on 23 February 1752. He held the office of Chief Justice in Eyre, South of Trent between 1756 and 1765. He held the office of Keeper of the Privy Seal [Scotland] between October 1765 and August 1766. He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 12 May 1766. He held the office of Vice-Admiral of Scotland between 1776 and 1782.
