[Calendar Patent Rolls EIV] 17 May 1470 Westminster. Grant during minority to Richard Whitlegh and Elizabeth his wife of the custody of John Carew, son and heir of Nicholas Carew, esquire, deceased, with the wardship and marriage of the heir without dispargement and the custody of all his manors and lands, and so from heir to heir during minority.

[Calendar Patent Rolls HVII] 13 December 1487 Westminster. Special livery and licence of entry without proof of age for John Carue, son and heir of Nichalas Carue, esquire, deceased, tenant in chief of Edward IV and kinsman and heir of Hugh Carue deceased, tenant in chief of the said king, to wit, son of the said Nicholas, brother of the said Hugh.

[Calendar Fine Rolls HVII] 21 October 1504. Writ of diem clauit extremum to the escheator in the county of Devon after the death of John Carewe, who held in chief of the king.

[Calendar Inquisitions Post Mortem HVII V2] No. 943. John Carewe. Commission of concealments, 24 March, 19 Henry VII; inquisition. 22 November 20HVII. He was seized of the manor of Haccomb and 9 others listed, a mill, heath and land, and the advowson of the church of Haccomb to the said manor of Haccomb belonging, in fee tail, by the gift of Joan [paternal grandmother], late the [second] wife of Robert Veer, knight. In his will, he wished that some of these properties be sold, until the sum of 600 marks had been fully levied from the yearly profits thereof and disposed as follows. 200 marks to buy a wardship or marriage for the said Thomas Carewe, the [younger] son, and 400 marks, the residue, to be equally divided between Joan and Elizabeth, daughters of him and the said Katharine, for their marriage, with the benefit of survivorship if any of the said Thomas, Joan and Elizabeth died under the age of 21, or unmarried. All the land in the parishes of Plymouth, Druystaynton and Budlegh, which he severally bought of Joseph Sannoe, William Sewarde and John at Walle, should stand effeoffed thereof to the use of Thomas Carewe, his son, and the heirs of his body begotten, with remainder in default to the use of the churchwardens of Haccomb and their successors, and for his soul and the souls of his parents, Joan late the wife of the said Robert Veer, knight, Elizabeth late the wife of Warin le Archedekyn, Agnes late the [first] wife of him, the said Joan, daughter of John Crokker, knight, and of all faithful deceased. He died seised as aforesaid of the manor and advowson of Haccomb the manors of Milton, and others manors and land listed. He died 18 July 18VII. John Carewe, aged 3 and more, is his son and heir.
