DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Nathaniel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Nathaniel:

Carter-8300 and Carter-2715 appear to represent the same person because: Trying this for the third time. This man represents the same spouse of Keziah Johnson. Retain the sourced data. Thank you.

Carter-8300 and Carter-2715 are not ready to be merged because: Nathaniel Green Carter's death dates & places don't match suggesting the 2 Nathaniel Green Carters are not the same person.

But they're both married to Kesiah Johnson, who presumably is the same person? What about the children for each man?

Carter-8300 and Carter-2715 appear to represent the same person because: Same spouse of Kesiah Johnson. Previous differences now removed; merge may proceed

Jillaine,

My apologies for not responding sooner; I lost your proposed merge email (which I have just rediscovered).

Nathaniel Green Carter married Kesiah H. Johnson according to Wilson County Tennessee Marriage Bonds. Transcribed from Microfilm of Loose Marriage Bonds by Bettie B. Davis. “Ansearchin’ News,” Vol. 24 (Winter 1977) no. 4, p. 173. Memphis, TN: The Tennessee Genealogical Society. www.tngs.org/ansearchin/.

Marriage Bonds & Minister’s Returns of Charlotte County, VA 1764-1815 by Catherine Lindsay Knorr, p. 13 records the marriage of Charles Carter to Lucy Barksdale on 25 Oct 1786. The couple seems to have married in the bride’s home county of Charlotte, VA rather than the groom’s home county of Pittsylvania, VA

I have located 2 Charles Carters, both of whom married a Lucy, who might be Nathaniel’s father & were from Pittsylvania County, VA:

Charles Carter who married Lucy Barksdale & had at least 5 children, 3 of whom, (including Nathaniel Green Carter) are specified in Pittsylvania County Deed Book 11, 1796 - 1799, Reel 6, p. 153): Nathaniel Green Carter Coleman Carter Theodorick Carter Dudley Carter Lucy Barksdale Carter

Charles Carter who married Lucy (no known surname) & had at least 4 children, 3 of whom, (including Nathaniel Carter) are specified in Pittsylvania County [VA] Deed Book 37, 1834-5, pp. 347-8): Nathaniel Carter Susan D. Carter Lucy A. Carter (who married Thomas Ragsdale) Charles T. Carter (possibly known as Charles Carter, Jr.).

My genealogical database does not include the names of Caleb Carter or Phebe Williams. So, I can neither confirm or deny they are the parents of a Nathaniel Carter.

So, should I approve the merger or do you have some reservations?

Carter

Thanks for the fast response, Carter. Sounds like you've got the sources to support the relationships. I've detached Caleb Carter and Phebe Williams from the other (orphaned, sourceless) duplicate, so the merge can now proceed. I'll re-propose it.

Carter, are you still around? There's an outstanding merge of the husband of Kisiah Johnson; this profile claims her husband was son of Charles Carter and Lucy Barksdale; the duplicate spouse claims his parents were Caleb Carter and Phebe Williams. We're trying to resolve the conflict; neither has any source. What do you have? Thanks so much.

Carter-8300 and Carter-2715 are not ready to be merged because: Parents are different. Need to confirm before Merging.

Karen, can we find any sources for this couple? Or for his origins/parents?

Carter-8300 and Carter-2715 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate. Son of Caleb Carter and Phoebe Williams. Nathaniel was born in Tennessee. Charles Carter and Lucy Barksdale never stepped one foot into Tennessee.
