Biography

Rutha was born in or around Jefferson Tennesee, from mouse creek to McMinn co. She is the daughter of Levi Carter and ELizabeth Howard. ELizabeth is the dau. of John Howard and Rebecca Brittain neighbors that never married and bore a child out of wedlock Rutha's Mother Elizabeth.

Early in live Rutha traveled from Jefferson, Mouse Creek, McMinn, Bledsoe to Franklin Pulaski CO. Missouri where her father passed. A large crew of travlers left bledsoe at the same time. Most had Indian Heritage somewhere in their family. Carter, Kelley, Rollins, Rogers, Dunlacy, Ward

Death

She dissappears or dies between 1855 and 1860, Rachel her sister then marries her husband by 1860 as he was homesteading in Dixon Missouri 160 acers. Date of marriage est. based on birth of first child in March of 1863. David's eldest children from Rutha had already moved onto Indian Territory in Oklahoma, as well as her Uncle Alexander Carter (1798-1867)and his family. She is buired in Fairview Cemetery along the Fence in a mis-marked grave. I've seen it along with cousin Gerald Groves when we visited in 1985 Gerald was going to have it replaced with the correct headstone. Val Rollins
