Biography

Bernard Moore Carter was born November 29, 1789, in Shirley, Charles City county, Virginia, a son of Charles Carter and Ann Butler Moore. In 1803, Bernard married Lucy Grymes Lee, the sister of Henry “Light-Horse Harry” Lee, Revolutionary War Continental Army Officer, U.S. Congressman and the father of Civil War Confederate General Robert E. Lee,

Bernard died March 7, 1842, at the age of 61 years, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is buried in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, in Philadelphia. There are portraits of Bernard on his Find A Grave memorial. [1]

Bernard was named as the brother of Mildred W Carter in her May 1807 Last Will & Testament; when the Will was proved in Dec 1807, Bernard appeared and was named executor - Carter, Bernard M. & Lee, Anne H.
