Note

Note: We know nothing of the parents names or any of Jessie's brothers or
sister except that they were living in Kentucky when he was born.
Further research in Kentucky may reveal this information.
Jessie Carter became a farmer and a shoemaker according to family
history. He came to Indiana from Kentucky around 1848. It is likely
that he first came into Warrick County crossing the Ohio river not far
from Evansville. The 1850 Census (dated 26 Sep, 1850) for Hart Twp,
Warrick County records his presence there along with his wife and six
children. The record shows his occupation as a farmer owning 450 acres
of land. Family oral history says Jessie came to Indiana in 1848 and
settled near Winslow in Pike County. Since Pike County is just north
of Warrick County it is possible that he first resided in Warrick and
then moved to Pike County, or county lines may have shifted and the
area near Winslow may have at the time of the 1850 census actually
been in Warrick county. The census documents the family names and
dates as Jessie(42), wife Sarah(46), Sarah M.(17), William(13),
Andrew(11), Susan(10), Parthena(8), and Martha(6). The oldest son
James through whom the family line descends is not recorded since he
was 22 years of age and had married earlier that year in April.
Jessie at some point during the following years moved into Winslow,
Indiana where he was lving at the time of his death in 1880. His wife
Sarah died the next year in 1881.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jesse by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jesse:

This looks like the wrong father is listed here.

Yes I agree something is wrong here. My ancestry.com has Jesse (born 1802) father as Jesse Carter (born 1767) and mother as Francis Lucas (no birth date). I'm sure I got that information from sons of revolution. I never use this site anymore. So I have no idea how this happened.
