Jesse Carter was born circa 1838 (from 1850 census) in Bradley county, Tennessee, a son of Levi Henegar Carter and Margaret Thomas. Jesse is found, at the age of 12 years, living with his parents in Bradley county, Tennessee. [1]
On September 20, 1858, in Meigs count, Tennessee, Jesse married Martha L. Matthews. [2] Martha is found as "Lucinda Matthews" in the death records of her daughter Margarett C. (Carter) Cothran, born August 22, 1860, in Maryland county, Tennessee, who died September 1, 1925, in Detroit, Wayne county, Michigan. [3]
It is presumed that Jesse died prior to September 24, 1867, when Mrs Martha L. (Mathews) Carter, presumably widowed, married Robert W. Redwine. [4]
