"Mr. and Mrs. Bart Carter, of near Salem, received a telegram fromthe War Department Sunday announcing that their son, Seaman I-C Otto TomCarter, 19, had been killed in action. The telegram gave no particularsas to where or on what date he was killed.
The young sailor was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Carter. Heenlisted in the Navy in Novembr 1942, and received his basic training atGreat Lakes, ILL. Shortly thereafter he was assigned to ship duty. Twoof Seaman Carter's brothers are also in the service, Cpl. James Carter,of the Army Air Force, not stationed in France, and Sgt. William H.Carter, of the Army Air Transport Service, stationed in the AleutianIslands.
Besided his parents, Otto is survived by several brothers andsisters."
