Richard Carter Chandler

Origins

Richard was born c. 1771 or 1772 in Goochland County, Virginia Colony, a son of Richard Chandler and Elizabeth Carter.[1]

One birth date reported is 26 Jan 1772 (source unknown).[1] According to Gayle Keough (in posting by WH Carter), "The Mormon records have him born 9 Nov 1771."[1] Another is 17 September 1771 (evidence unknown).[1]

Marriage

Richard married on 3 October 1798 at Fluvanna County, Virginia, to Sarah Sally Eades, the daughter of Abraham Eades.[2] Sally was a minor bride and married with her mother's permission. Apparently, Sally Eades' father, Abraham, was unhappy about the marriage with Richard.

This from the "Billups Family Genealogy Forum:"

Abraham Eades stated in his "WILL" Richard Carter Chandler was not to get anything!! Only the Chandler grandchildren & husbands are named. Samuel L. Billups & Sarah are named.[3]

Property and Positions

Richard and Sally moved to Kanawha County, Virginia (later WV).[3]

Death & Legacy

There is a head stone for "R. C. Chandler, 1770 - 1850" at the Teays Hill Cemetery, Saint Albans, Kanawha County, West Virginia. However, these dates are in dispute.

Richard may have died in ether 1843 or 17 Oct 1845 at Kanawha County, Virginia (later West Virginia).[4]
