Better known as actor Charlie Chaplin, Charles Spencer Chaplin was born in London, England, on April 16th 1889. Charles was an English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer who rose to fame in the era of silent film. He became a worldwide icon through his screen persona, the Tramp, and is considered one of the film industry's most important figures. He was awarded an honorary Oscar during the 1929 Academy Awards for his significant contributions to the film industry.[1]
His father was a versatile vocalist and actor; and his mother, known under the stage name of Lily Harley, was an attractive actress and singer, who gained a reputation for her work in the light opera field
Chaplin founded United Artists Corporation in 1919 with Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and director D.W. Griffith.

When Charlie was only 7 his mom had horrible migraines and hallucinations. The doctor decided she needed hospitalized. She was let out later and then when he was 14 she was put back in for "seeing ghosts looking at her and knocking on doors giving out coal as presents". He wanted to stay free so he lived in alleys and ate from trash cans. People think, though it was never proven, that his "little tramp" was based on his life at this time.
