Research Progress

According to North America, Family Histories 1500 - 2000, John CHENEY was born 10 July 1676; m. 1. Elizabeth ---- who died in 1715; m. 2. Elizabeth CURRIG in October 1717; m. 3 Lydia BURRAGE in 1729. (p. xxiii)

Unless otherwise cited this list of children and the information about them came from North America, Family Histories, 1500 - 2000, p. xxiv.

The source stated the following children for the 1st marriage:

1. John CHENEY (Born 10 January 1704)
2.Sarah CHENEY (Born: 7 October 1706; Married in 1727 to Isaac SHEPHERD)
3. Daniel CHENEY (Born: 28 December 1710; Died: 1743)
4. Timothy CHENEY (Born: 18 April 1713)
5. Moses CHENEY (Born: 20 October 1715; Married in 1755 to Hannah WOODWARD)

The source stated the following children for the 2nd marriage:

6. William CHENEY (Born: 8 July 1719; Married in 1745 to Lydia FLAGG)
7. Elizabeth CHENEY (Born: 2 November 1721; Married in 1750 to Stephen HASTINGS)
8. Eleanor CHENEY (Born: 6 February 1724)
9. Samuel CHENEY (Born: 31 January 1726; Died: 1761)
10. Abigail CHENEY (Born: 20 August 1727)
11. Lydia CHENEY (Born: December 1731)

RESEARCH NOTED CONFLICT: The North America, Family Histories, 1500 - 2000 stated that he married for a 3rd time in 1729, but the profile as entered lists his death in 1728. This death in 1728 reflects the date of the administration of the estate of John CHENEY on 4 November 1728. The third marriage to Lydia BURRAGE actually belongs to his son John CHENEY who was the first child listed of the first marriage. [Statement, Jeanne HOWELL, researcher with no connection to target individual, notes were obtained while helping fellow researcher with her family tree.]
