• Newspaper business editor - Press Telegram /Long Beach, CA. (1945-68)
• Suffered debilitating stroke 1968, retired to San Jose, CA until his death in 1974..
• Newspaper man all of his life, worked first in St. Joseph with his brother Merrill and moved during the war years to Southern California.
• Served on the City Desk and eventually became Business Editor. During this period, he produced shows held at the Veterans Hospital in Long Beach, CA for the returned war wounded. Bob Hope, Jack Benny, and others entertained at no charge.
• Ken wrote many a political speech Most extraordi nary of all was a letter from President Truman complimenting him on a "grand" job he was doing. What made this most extraordinary was that Ken was a staunch republican (once told sons that he would vote republican even if the Devil was on the ticket) and Truman was a democrat, plus - Truman wrote a personal note to Ken thanking him for his help in the election.The letter and memo's are in the Chilcote Archival Binder.
