[1] Giles Churchill born 18 June 1718 Newington Parish died 1771 in Florida, Orange, NY at age of 53, he married and settled 1751 at the forks of the Delaware River upon a grant made to William Penn. This was in the vicinity of what became, New York side of the river, called Cochecton.

Giles Churchill Sr (18 Jun 1718 Newington, Hartford, Connecticut - abt 1771 Florida, Montgomery, New York) was the oldest son of Ensign Samuel Churchill (1688 Wethersfield – 21 Jul 1769) and Martha Boardman (19 Dec 1695 – 14 Dec 1780) dau of Daniel and Hannah (Wright) Boardman[1].

A Family Odyssey "The CT Churchills and the Settling of America 1635-1900" by Malcolm H. Churchill

When Giles and his family settled at the forks of the Delaward in 1751, it was unbroken wilderness. By 1765 however the growing white population threatened to inundate the area and the Indians decided to resist. By this time five more children had been born to Giles and his wife. Warned that the warriors were assembling, the Giles Churchills place the mother and younger children on their one horse and their sole sack of meal on their cow and hurried away. Looking back, they saw the smoke from their log cabin as the Indians burned it. The family made its way to MA probably the Churchill book suggests taking shelter with relatives of the husband or wife. Giles died in 1771 about 53 years of age, in Florida, NY. Florida is in southern NY just north of New Jersey and a bit east of PA and the Delaware River. The family then returned to CT.

Wife's name has not been discovered.
