Biography

Adam was born on December 10, 1754[1]. He was the son of John Phillip Clapp and Barbara ______ . He married Ruth (Lawrence) Clapp before 1798.

Military Service

Adam Clapp was a Revolutionary War soldier. His Service record is on file at the National Archives, Washington, D.C. file # S30937. Adam Clapp, while living in Guilford County, North Carolina, volunteered as a private in the fall of 1776. He served in Captain Henry Whitsell's Company, Colonel Alexander Martin's Regiment. Residence

In the Declaration for a pension which he signed on 16 October 1832, Clapp said that, about five years after the end of the Revolutionary War, he moved to Tennessee, where he stayed for twenty-two years. He then moved to Union County, Illinois, and lived there until a year before he filed the Declaration, 1832. Then he moved to neighboring Alexander County, Illinois, where he was currently living.[5]

Death

He passed away on August 15, 1841[6]

He was buried in 1841 in Saint Johns Lutheran Cemetery, in Dongola, Union, Illinois, USA[7] See a picture of Adam Clapp's Grave.

Clapp-1564 and Clapp-287 appear to represent the same person because: There are parallel profiles for Adam and his wife. Both men were married to women with the same name, lived in the same state, and had the same year of birth.
