Posted in The Bloomfield News in Bloomfield, Indiana on 14 February 1909[3][4]:
Mrs. Amanda M. Benham, died at the home of her son-in-law, Harvey N. Emery, in Taylor Township, February 4, aged eighty-one years, six months and twenty-eight days. Her maiden name was Clark and she was born in Loudon County, Virginia, July 7, 1826.
On July 11, 1848 she was united in marriage with Isaac H. Benham who preceded her to that better land. This union resulted in the birth of eleven children, but only five are left to mourn the loss of their mother. Besides these she leaves one stepdaughter, thirty-one grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, one sister, one brother and a large circle of relatives and friends, who will greatly miss her.
About 1848 she united with the M. E. church and has lived a true and devoted Christian life.
She had been in poor health for a long time but was taken seriously sick five weeks before she died and gradually grew worse until death relieved her of her suffering. All was done that kind and loving friends could do but it was to no avail, as God's will shall be done, not ours.
She was a true pioneer woman and was always interested in the welfare and up building of her neighbors and the country generally.
We desire to thank our neighbors and friends for their assistance during the last sickness and death of our dear mother. MR. AND MRS. H. N. EMERY.
