Biography
A Delayed Birth Certificate was filed in Stanly County, North Carolina, naming Harris Gilliam Clayton as the father of James Otto Clayton born in 1898.

On 12 Sep 1918, Thomas Clayton completed his WWI Draft Registration Card, giving his age as 20 with a birth date of 12 Feb 1898. He was working for Wiscassett Mills Co. [now known of Cannon Mills] in Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina, and listed his nearest relative as Gillam Clayton of New London. He signed the document as Thomas Clayton.

Thomas Edison Clayton, 70 year old single textile worker, died at the NC Sanitorium in McCain, Hoke County, North Carolina, on 10 Jan 1969. He was buried on 11 Jan 1969 in New London, Stanly County, North Carolina, with arrangements handled for the family by Lefler Funeral Home of Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina. Information on his death certificate was provided by his hospital records and his sister, Mrs. J. M. Griffin of Albemarle, NC, presumed to be his sister, Onnie Agnes (Clayton) Griffin.[3]
