Biography
A Delayed Birth Certificate was filed in Stanly County, North Carolina, naming Harris Gilliam Clayton as the father of Onnie Agnes Clayton born in 1910.[1]
According to information on her death certificate supplied by her son, Clayton R Mauldin,

Onnie was the daughter of Harris Gilliam Clayton and Lavina Freeman.

Onnie first married Walter L Mauldin, son of Jona and Winty Mauldin of Stanly County. He died as the result of an auto accident on 29 June 1937, leaving Onnie a widow with at least one child, son Clayton Ray Mauldin born in 1935.

She and the child lived with her mother and older brother, Tom, for a time while she worked in a hosiery mill.[5]
Her second marriage to James H. Griffin, son of L. C. Griffin (living) and Dora Smith Griffin (dead), of New London, North Carolina, took place on 25 Nov 1950 in Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina.[6]
Onnie died on 18 Oct 1990 in Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina at the age of 80. She was buried in the Prospect Baptist Cemetery in Albemarle with arrangements handled by Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.[3]
James H Griffin died on 18 Mar 1968 in Albemarle, Stanly County, North Carolina. His death certificate information was supplied by Mrs. Onnie C. Clayton of Albemarle. Her maiden named is listed in the Surviving Spouse box as Onnie Clayton. James' parents are identified as Lex C. Griffin and Dora Smith. He was buried in Prospect Baptist Cemetery, Albemarle, with arrangements handled by Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.[9]
