"WILLIAM A. CLEVENGER, farmer, Section 17, P. 0. Columbus, was born in Missouri in 1835 and was raised on a farm. At age of eighteen he began for himself in Missouri, farming three years, and working in a mill for four more. He came to Kansas in 1860, and after remaining in Dickinson County eighteen months, went to Morris County, where he staid [sic] three years. He went to Cherokee County in 1866. He bought eighty acres of land in Morris County, and two farms in Cherokee County, one of which he sold. He is now farming the other. He has sixty acres and raises stock and grain. He was married to Miss Amanda Montooth, of Tennessee, in 1852. He has had ten children-William S., William, George, Nancy, John, Evie, Mary, Martha, Dicy and Margaret, all but the last two of whom are still living."[1]
