Biography

Agnes was the son of John de Copton, named in the 1329 will of her uncle, Hamo de Copton. Her mother's name is unknown.

She married first John de Northwell. She married second, perhaps about 1339, John le Chaucer; they were the parents of poet Geoffrey Chaucer. A 1340 deed names her as Agnes Chaucer of London, mother of John de Northwell. She is named in a 1354 deed as wife of John Chaucer, citizen and vintner of London, and as heir of Hamo de Copton. John and Agnes Chaucer are named in additional deeds in London in 1365 and 1365/6.

Agnes married third Bartholomew atte Chappel, and is named in a 1367 deed as wife of Bartholomew and former wife of John Chaucer, late citizen and vintner.
